Athletes and Coaches Recognition

Recommend recognizing the fastest male/female athletes and state record breakers at their schools during the half-time of a football or basketball game. Coaches will be recognized at the summer and winter SCTCCCA meetings.

Sierra Henderson (Ridgeview) was presented her trophy when her school played Byrnes in football. She received a standing ovation from both sides.

A motion was made to approve summer minutes and budget report prepared by Ginger Foley (Richland Northeast)

The minutes and budget were approved unanimously.

Nessie Harris (SCHSL) sent a message to coaches to get their athletes involved in the Advisory Council or Leadership Conference.

Leadership conferences will be held at Mauldin (1-16), West Florence  (2-6), Woodland (2-13) and White Knoll (2-27)

A motion was made to recognize all SC track and field athletes that qualified for the Olympics. Athletes will be honored at the Coaches Classic.

Shrine Bowl Run Report

Mike Moore reported on the success of Shrine Bowl Run. Shriner, Mark Jones did an outstanding job communicating with the media. Encouraged promoting cross country athletes to attend the Shriners Hospital celebration.

Larry Sanders outlined concerns related to athletes getting through the Clearinghouse process. Major concerns: Fee $60.00,waiver granted with receiving a waiver from ACT/SAT, remember to press “submit” with online application, and schools should update core courses

NSSF Meets

Announced the indoor championship will be held in Boston, MA March 13-14, Nike Outdoor Nationals June 18-20 (NCA&T) and Great American XC Festival October 2-3 (Cary, NC). NSSF will continue to provide outstanding athletes travel to meets such as Taco Bell.

Emerge elite standards have been established to allow younger athlete to participate in the national meet.

Reminded schools could not compete in the Eastern HS Challenge Indoor Meet unattached or register under their high school name.

Track  Officials Body

Presented the track officials idea to SC HS Football Official and received great interest. Expressed a need to have certified officials in place to certify records, for the National HS Federation will not accept records unless a certified track official is available.

Establishing a Track Officials Body was Approved unanimously at the summer meeting.

All-State Certificates

Encouraged establishing a committee to set bench marks for track and field All-State honors. All-State Certificates can be present to athletes at the State Meet.

Made a proposal that All-State track and field honors be changed to the State champion and everyone that makes a certain standard.  A Committee will determine the standards.

Association Membership  Fees

Motioned to increase association membership fees from $5.00 to $10.00. SCTCCCA works with two sports (5.00 XC & 5.00 T&F).

Recommended changing date that you can start practice. Extend practice season by adding one week on the front end.

Skill Practice Proposal

Proposed asking the SCHSL to change their rule to allow track and field to practice 11 people in preseason skill sessions rather than the current three. The eleven athletes come from applying the 75% rule to the 14 individual events in track and field. Danny and John encouraged coaches to sell this proposal to their principals.

Indoor Track Participation

Proposed asking the SCHSL to allow the schools in SC to participate in two indoor track meets per year as long as schools submit eligibility, and count the two indoor meets against the 16 meets allowed during the season.

XC State Qualifying Proposal

Both coaches provided proposals to change 3A Cross Country State Qualifying procedures. The SCTCCCA coaches allowed 3A coaches to discuss both proposals and come to some consensus.

Both proposals did not receive approval by 3A coaches.

Reminded coaches to check rosters and eliminate athletes that are not in their program with Direct Athletics. Direct Athletics charges for every athlete on your roster.  Encouraged using PTEntry.com of Atlanta, for they charge a flat rate of $35.00.
